Lived Experience Advisory Panel

Apply Today

The Fredericton Community Kitchens is recruiting volunteers for its newly announced Lived Experience Advisory Panel!

If you’ve experienced food insecurity, homelessness, poverty, and/or substance abuse, and have navigated support systems firsthand — your insight matters. Help us shape programs that truly serve our community and address the barriers that persist, including ableism, stigma, discrimination, racism, and colonialism.

The role of the Fredericton Community Kitchens’ Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) is to advise The Fredericton Community Kitchens’ Board of Directors by providing valuable feedback on programs, policies, and processes, hold focus groups and making recommendations for new and/or improved strategies

Further, the goal of LEAP is to ensure the expertise of those with lived experience of food insecurity is embedded in the work of the Fredericton Community Kitchens. Members of LEAP will achieve this goal by sharing wisdom, knowledge, and insights gained from their experiences. The Fredericton Community Kitchens recognizes the value of experiential knowledge and expertise based on real, direct and personal life experience that cannot be gleaned from research alone.

Goals of the LEAP

  • To evaluate the organizational policies and practices that may reinforce stigmas or discrimination.

  • To identify internal gaps in either knowledge or practice before engaging people with lived experience to determine whether receiving technical assistance would be beneficial

  • To aid in recruiting a diverse Board of Directors with varied backgrounds and experiences to provide a comprehensive perspective to review applications and select members.

  • To support outreach and recruitment efforts that welcome individuals from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds to our leadership, in collaboration with the selection committee.

  • To advise on the development of an equitable review and interview process in consultation with the selection committee.

  • To support the organization by recommending program improvements and highlighting areas for growth.
